The purpose of this article is to reconsider the basics of the “Community Music” theory in relation to multicultural coexistence through music. For that, it summarizes the current status and issues of musical activities aimed at multicultural coexistence on the basis of examples of international cultural events in Shiga Prefecture, Japan. Based upon those examples, the implications of the concept of “Community Music” for multicultural education are discussed in connection with the local community and school education.
